The Schlüssel Reederei, a 50 % shareholder of the Hansa Mare Reederei, is the competent contact partner for the nautical and technical inspection of the 17 container vessels of the Hansa Mare fleet. The shipping experienced members of the onshore organisation, themselves went to sea for many years, secure the permanent availability of the Hansa Mare vessels through their comprehensive technical know-how.
The employees in the Operations department form the contact interface between the ship, the charterer and the shipping company. Starting the moment when the charter party is signed, this is where the operational activities of the ships are coordinated and the voyage instructions are transmitted to the captains. In addition, this department watches over the delivery and return delivery of the ships to or from the time charter and deals with all the associated questions and tasks. The colleagues carry out trip evaluations, bunker ordering and they take out all the necessary insurances for the vessel. All settling of commission payments and port costs, payments of the charterers as well as rentals are also settled here. The Controlling section steers and monitors the efficiency and effectiveness of all ship projects. Daily efficiency reviews as well as efficient cost management and liquidity planning ensure the economic success of the operational fleet. The investors are periodically provided with financial reports, summarised in the form of a target/performance comparison, by means of the half-yearly business reports and the Annual Report − these exemplify the transparent information policy of the shipping company. The financial accounting department handles all tasks relating to bookkeeping, payment transactions, the annual financial statements and short-term liquidity planning as well as payroll accounting for the personnel at sea and ashore.
All vessels of the Hansa Mare fleet are certified by the Germanischer Lloyd in accordance with the ISM Code (International Safety Management) and the ISPS Code (International Ship and Port Facility Security). National and international safety regulations that are binding on shipping are permanently being amended or newly developed. Fleet Management ensures the immediate implementation of these regulations on board as well as in the onshore organisation and monitors compliance with these in the interests of safe operation of the ships.
In the interests of economic and environmentally compatible operation of the ships, depending on the exigencies of the sailing schedule the ships of the fleet sail at reduced speed. This saves fuel and simultaneously reduces the CO2 emissions. In the same vein, the fleet is technically equipped in such a way that it can be switched over to operation with
a special, low TBN oil, so by using low-sulphur fuel a sulphur content of less than 1.1 % can be achieved. Furthermore strict ballast water management is practised in order to protect the indigenous flora and fauna. All wastes produced in operation of the ship are properly treated and disposed of. In this context, in carrying out their day-to-day duties the crews on board as well as the onshore organisation always act with an awareness of environmental protection.
